All people say YES but also say NO

Yeah, that's exactly I want to talk about LIFE INSURANCE (LI) in Vietnam.

There is no official statistics about share of adults who owned life insurance in Vietnam, however, some prestigious and popular newspaper said that "approximately 10% population of Vietnam have LI" (Vnexpress.net). That is a small number compared to other countries in the world and in Southeast Asia.

I think it is true cause I asked people around me and they said that "LI is good but not now".

Well, before starting to "dissect" why Vietnamese people rarely have LI for themselves, let me show you the statistics of life insurance in countries around the world.

The percentage of adults participating in insurance in America

According some un-official information, in developed countries such as the US, UK and Japan, the rate of people have LI is up to 90%. Some countries in Southeast Asia, there is 80% in Singapore and 50% in Malaysia.

So, we can see that is a big different between Vietnam and other countries in the number of people having a LI. Some reasons are given: the viewpoint about LI of people; income and standard of living; people's awareness of saving and protecting health.

There is 57% of Vietnamese people think that their healthcare costs are the responsibility of other organizations and individuals such as the Government (26%), employers (16%) and family (15%). (LIMRA - Life Insurance Management Research Association). That shows people's awareness is still low.

On the other hand, in the ranking of the health index of countries per 1 million people published by Bloomberg News, Vietnam is ranked 62nd globally in terms of health risks with a score of 51.99%, a distance far away from the top country: Singapore with 89.5%.

In addition, up to 95% of Vietnamese people worry about their meager pensions not being enough to pay for their lives, as a result of a survey on people's attitudes and expectations about the future of retirement. United Nations Population Fund, Global Institute on Aging and Prudential Company in September 2015.

Besides, the healthy life expectancy of Vietnamese people is still quite low. On average, each elderly person suffers 14 years of illness and suffers from 2.69 diseases. While, Vietnamese people still do not have many measures to accumulate and save money when they are old, with a small pension amount, it is very difficult for the elderly in Vietnam to pay for their expenses on health and life.
It can be seen that Vietnamese people are facing many dangers and risks from life.

Moreover, part of the population is concerned about exclusions and benefits not being paid adequately. In addition, they are afraid of being scammed, afraid of losing money,... stemming from not having received the full and accurate advice of the insurance consultant.

In sum, that takes time to educate Vietnamese people the benefits of LI.
